E-Skills Week

European e-Skills Week http://eskills-week.ec.europa.eu highlighted the growing demand for skilled ICT users and professionals to drive a competitive and innovative Europe. The campaign sought to inform students, young professionals and SMEs about the vast range of opportunities that ICT-related jobs present. A new e-Skills Week campaign is planned for 2012.

Public authorities, ICT companies, education institutions and students engaged in hundreds of activities, training events, competitions, etc.. The awareness campaign culminated in a dedicated European e-Skills Week from 1 to 5 March 2010.

This initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry was coordinated by DIGITALEUROPE and European Schoolnet in conjunction with twenty national partners. The week was organised as part of the e-Skills strategy, which the European Commission adopted on 7 September 2007, via the Communication on "e-Skills for the 21st Century: Fostering Competitiveness, Growth and Jobs", presenting a long term e-skills agenda and including five major action lines at EU level (2008–2010). The Competitiveness Council of Ministers subsequently adopted Conclusions on a long term e-skills strategy on 22–23 November 2007.

More than 100 international and national organisations were stakeholders in the e-Skills Week 2010.
